Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft First Offense Petty Theft

I was caught shoplifting $42 worth of merchandise, they got my information, called the police and pressed charges. I was arrested, taken to the county jail, and released after they cited me and got all my information.

My question is what should I do to prepare for my court date? I have approx. two weeks before my court date.

Also, this happened in Sacramento, CA

Show up to court, request a public defender if you can't afford your own attorney, then speak only with that attorney. You do not want to make a plea at the hearing without first getting legal counsel.
