Hi. Here's my situation. A man posted on a forum (on a national TV network's website) some EGREGIOUS and HEINOUS lies about me. He used my full legal, first and last name, and since I am registered on that website, my profile includes my city and even a picture of me. He fabricated a story about him having notes that he had referred back to, and had reminded him that in my past I was accused of molesting a 12 year-old girl and that he saw me on an internet sex-offender website. I am a good, honest, hard-working family man with a wife and daughter.....and there is not an OUNCE of truth to this story. It is the 100% FABRICATION OF A VERY SICK MIND, Believe me, I want to sue this guy for libel until his teeth ache. This is an outrage that someone can fabricate such absolute lies and put them out on the internet for the entire world to see.
I live in Georgia. He lives in California. Can I file a libel lawsuit in my state of Georgia? Which court would hear it and where can I get the paperwork for filing?
Thank you in advance for any advice, help, and guidance you can provide. This has both sickened and angered me more than I ever thought possible.

According to another law site: In a libel action, unless the plaintiff is a public official or public figure, the plaintiff does not need to prove financial damages. The common law has made a policy determination that the publication of defamatory statements in a transmittable, affixed form that is capable of widespread and simple dissemination will certainly cause damage and therefore damage to one's reputation or character is enough for a court to impose damages.

Here's the thing.

Unless the defendant is very wealthy, and there is a better-than-decent chance of collecting on a judgment, no attorney will take this on a contingency basis.

So. The question becomes, how much are you willing to put into this? Think $50k (if cheap) and several years (if quick) of your own money and time - up front.
