Failure to repair

The owner of the house I am renting refuses to repair our broken dishwasher. He says that someone who lives here must have broken it. The dishwasher was last manufactured in 1979. I don't know if it has been in this house since 1979 but the dishwasher itself is at least 29 years old. I live in Montana and I am under the impression that the landlord must repair this problem because I am paying rent under the premise that I get to use this appliance and it must be calculated in the cost of rent.

I need to know if my request is ubsurd or if I have any rights regarding this matter. Does he have to have it repaired? Would it be worth my time to take him to court?

Our lease has no mention of the dishwasher. But it also has no mention of our air conditioner or sprinkler system and he has fixed those in a days notice. I don't know why he thinks we broke the dishwasher. It actually does still work, it just leaks out a lot of water. The first time we used it the kitchen was flooded.

Check the landlord/tenant laws in your state and highlight the portion of the law which lists the landlord responsibilities. Your landlord is responsible for reasonable repairs. Send him a letter requesting the repair of your dishwasher and if no response, take him to court. Good Luck!
