'Failure to Keep Proper Lookout'?

Hello. Recently, I was involved in a accident--at a stop sign, I, after coming to a full stop, didn't see a bicyclist crossing the street at the same time as I tried to make a right turn. I immediately stepped on the brakes, and from what I could tell, she didn't suffer any serious injuries--a small cut on her scalp (she was wearing a helmet), and perhaps some injury to her arm and leg on her right side.

I was cited for 'failure to keep proper lookout' by the officer present there, and was told to come to court (and was given a date). I was wondering, what should I expect? Is it something I should consider hiring a traffic attorney or w/e for? Should I expect the woman to hire a attorney of her own? What kind of penalties might I expect from such a citation?

I live in New Mexico, if that helps. Thank you.
