Expired insurance

My car was insured till the 12 September 2005. My car was flooded on 26 July 2005 and had to go for repairs to authorised workshop on the 8th August 2005. It was surveyed and repairs approved. Since the last 50 days the car has been in the workshop for repairs. Due to oversight I did not renew my insurance which I realized now. Where do I stand as far as claiming insurance for these repairs.
