My X was recently ruled in for contempt for non-payment of child support. Our hearing was scheduled for 2-9-05. He had an attorney friend of his call and get this hearing continued until next month. He owes about 1,700.00 in arrearages. Is there any way that he can get out of paying the arrearages?? Can this attorney just keep continuing the hearing until he can pay the arrearages?? He was out of work for about a month but was collecting unemployment benefits. He is now working and has been for 2 months. He has not paid ONE DIME since 11-1-04. Also, I heard somewhere that the Judge could rule that his actual payment would increase until all the arrearages were current. If this is so, this won't do me any good because he is not paying now, so why would he pay if he is ordered to pay a higher amount. Just confused. I love to get input. ( We live in South Carolina).
