I informed my roommates that I was moving out due to a disgusting uninhabitable living environment and I said that I would willingly pay rent for two full months after I gave notice. We are all on the same lease which goes through august. For those two months I searched for a subletter, which they agreed for me to do as did the landlords, but they did not act to contact any of these people so I obviously had to pay rent for another month. They now are actually considering subletters, but seem content to continue not finding someone and making me pay. Now they are asking me for the bills. My stuff has been out of the house for three full months. Also while I was living in the house my roommate's dog damaged 500 dollars worth of my personal belongings.
Three questions:
1. Do I have a legal obligation to continue paying utilities?
2. Would my roommates have a small claims case against me even though I have done everything possible to mitigate the damages of me moving out early?
3. Does my roommate have any legal obligation to me for the property that her dog damaged?
Thank you
