My mother was born in Spokane, WA but was raised by her Grandmother in Amisk, Alberta since she was a little girl. She never went to school in the U.S. She married a Canadian and had 5 children born in Canada. I tried to get her a Canadian Passport but was unable to do so as she was not registered as a citizen. She has a Canadian Driver's License and a Canadian Social Insurance Number and has paid taxes etc. in Canada. She now is 90 years old , When I was trying for her passport there was no record of her so the powers that be said she must have been registered as some point to be able to get the above documents. What I would like to know is:do I have dual citizenship because I have an American Mother and a Canadian Father. I was born in 1948. Or will it be easy for me to apply for dual citizenship.

Thank you

I'm not sure about EASY, but you can apply for Canadian citizenship.

Speak to the nearest Canadian consulate or their embassy in DC.

If you desire US citizenship, just reverse the directions above.

The US embassy is in Ottawa.
