Doctor slandered family's name

My uncle had a heart attack three months ago that resulted in his death. His wife took her 3-year-old son to the emergency room tonight because he broke his nose, and the doctor told her that he was friends with my uncle's ex-wife and he was nothing but a drugee wife-beater. He THEN said that the whole family was all bad and she needed to stay away from all of us. I take particular offense to this, because my father and I are the only ones carrying that name, and neither of us have EVER had any legal issues. I graduated from college in December and have applied to jobs at the hospital, and I wonder if my family name has been slandered to others under false pretenses.
