My parents sued our old landlord for our security deposit. We finally served him papers and he didn't show up at court. The judge issued a default judgement for the entire amount and told us to mail the paperwork to the defendant. He also stated we should come back if we don't hear from him. What happens next in the process?

I don't know how your state handles such……In many states, the judge's order or judgment can be put on their credit history if they don't appeal the judgment within the time limit………In some states they have 30 days. If they don't honor it, the judgment can be sent to the local sheriff to take their property and sell to return you money……or do what it takes to enforce the decision……..Check to see if your state does same…….can't tell but most states do something along these lines….

Your parents should file that judgement with the clerk and recorder, this is helpfull in collection.

They may also think about getting a garnishment order from the good judge as well.
