defamation of character online

My husbands ex-wife posted nasty things about him online, saying that he's a drug addict and and a pedophile, which of course non of it is true, so we're thinking to sue her for defamation of character, but is it possible, since she posted it online and there's no real way to prove that its her
Would appreciate any advise

Two things.... first you have to prove that it was her.
Second, you have to prove that there has actually been some kind of damage.
The best way to approach this might be to contact the owner of the website and complain about the comments... they will usually remove it right away to avoid any legal problems with you.
