I work in a privately owned beauty salon. If a stylist makes a mistake on a client and the client has to get their hair fixed and another stylist has to fix it, the stylist that had made the mistake loses credit for that service and is given to the stylist that had to correct the mistake. A week ago this happened to me, I made a mistake on my client, the client came in with another stylist. I normally get paid hourly ($7.50 an hour) but that week I made commission, which is 50%. 50% of the service that I did would have been $30. So my boss made be clock out 3 1/2 hours before my ending time to compinsate for the $30 that was not going to be credited to me for the service since the client was coming in to get her hair fixed by someone else. Instead of just sending me home 3 1/2 hours early, he made me stay and work without pay for those 3 1/2 hours. To me, it seems very unprofessional and not really fair, but is it illegal for him to do what he did?
