My daughter is 21, has a 2 1/2 child and lives in Louisiana with her father. She has a drug and alcohol problem and is NOT ready to be a mother. She just wants to sign over custody or parental rights to me, at least until she's ready to take over again. I live in Texas, what needs to be done in order to accomplish this? Do you think it would be pretty cut and dry?

No, it won't be "cut and dry". You will have to petition the court for custody. You SHOULD get it, but knowing these "judges", the judge will come up with a drug treatment/find god/gonna make things better package.

Talk to a shyster from Louisiana, they could tell you more. If it were me, I would petition the court, in the best interest of the child(grandmother and next best friend) for PRIMARY custody, leaving some visitation for your daughter.

Where is the father? As long as he is not around then you probably have a good shot. You should talk to a family law attorney about getting temporary custody or guardianship. She likely cannot terminate her parental rights, that is permanent and only done with an adoption.
