Could anyone give me an approximate length of time the DA might take, or is allowed to take, before filing charges in a Calif case?

Our adult son was videotaped as an accomplice in a store robbery in December. He distracted a clerk as his friend did a grab and run. The friend turned himself in and claimed my son didn't know a thing about the theft. Ya, right. The investigator told me it's obvious my son was in on it and sent their file and recommendation to the DA.

The item stolen was approx $1,600. The friend posted bail and has not yet had a court date set.

Any input will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The state has three years to file on a felony theft case. It's likely that they will file in about 6 months or less if they intend to file, but not a guarantee.

Thank you, JacksGal. My husband and I are just gonna let this soap opera play out. We don't even know where our son is now, or how he might be served if he were to be prosecuted.
