How did the department store damage your property? I assume this was a vehicle. If so, what makes you think that the department store might be liable for someone else's actions? Was it an employee?

And you should have three years to make a claim, but if your case merely involves a car being damaged in their lot, they will deny the claim and you will almost certainly lose in any lawsuit ... unless they PROMISE no damage to property in their lot ... I doubt they did that.
