Fraud, Embezzlement, Bad Checks Credit card theft

This 17 year old person took two lost credit cards from the lost and found box at his place of work and gave them to two of his highschool friends, also 17. They used the cards to buy gas and did some small grocery shopping. After 36 hours the credit card owner reported the loss to the card company and they were both stopped. They charged about $200.00. The employer of the 17 year old found out, fired him and reported him to Police. He was arrested. He confessed that he chose to take the cards but he was too afraid to do anything with them and he gave them to his friends. There will be a court date coming up for him. What is he supposed to do between now and then? What are his rights. This is his first time.
