We have sold over the internet for 10 of our 20 years in business. Never a problem. Then we get a large order for hardware. So we get the purchaser to fax front and back of the credit card, fax his signature on the purchase slips, fax his drivers license, and all of this matches the card, and the shipping address. We get authorization for the amounts.

So we order the hardware, ship it to him, pay the hardware company - and voila - the cards turn out to be fraud.

So Mastercard sucks our account empty, but there was nothing left for VISA. Now VISA has sent it to a collection agency.

Prior to this we spent 6 months sending all of the evidence to VISA and MC, informing them we had been taken in a case of fraud, and they said they would look into it. Then we get a collection agency to start contacting us.

Is there something we can do against VISA/MC for lack of protection. I saw a class action lawsuit once - how do we get one of these going. We are out $45,000 for hardware, and now the credit card companies want their cut too.

What is the best course of action?

Thanks in advance.
