Just an amateur here, but does Article 1, Section 4 of the constitution contradict Amendment 17?
Thanks for your opinion,
Alex

Amendment 17 amends Article I Section 3 (not Section 4). The purpose of an Amendment is to modify the Constitution, potentially overriding any of its provisions, in this case, Article I Section 3. An Amendment can also modify a prior Amendment (Amendment 21 repealed Amendment 18). Some researchers have claimed Amendment 17 was never properly ratified. Also, all properly ratified Amendments are constitutional by default because they become part of the Constitution once ratified.

I was thinking the statement, "except as to the Places of chusing Senators", in section 4 meant that the place(state legislature) could not be changed to what it is now( voting booth). I told you I was an amateur.
I don't understand why they changed the senators from being chosen by their state legislature to chosen by popular election?
