Are you asking about a free consultation with a lawyer to discuss your legal matters?

If you are, yes, but be sure to mention that before you start blabbing.

And, be sure you get an answer in the affirmative.

Also, if its a criminal matter, a good attorney will most likely not ask you if you're guilty.

It's a good idea to avoid saying stuff like, "Yeah, I stole the stuff!"

Or, "I never meant to kill him."

If you eventually retain the attorney, this will be covered in detail in the written retainer describing what you're paying the lawyer to do, and what the lawyer will do for said payment.

If the lawyer refuses to provide a written retainer, seek another lawyer. That retainer is your contract. If it doesn't contain language you desire, discuss it before signing it and paying her. If she won't modify it, or offer a reason for not modifying it, find another lawyer.
