I am a 24 yr old recently single mom of 2 girls. I never married my kids father and have been on an off for 4 years. Well recently he decided to up and leave his 5 yr old and 6 month old and myself with nothing. He has decided he refuses to help with any money. I will not be able to go to court until after I file on Oct 2nd. Anyway I am an emotional wreck and feel I am unable to take care of my kids mentally or money wise. I am not currently working because I was unable to during my pregnancy and having trouble finding a job now. I was thinking about giving my mom rights to the girls til I am stable enough to take them back, or giving her temp guardianship. What are the possibilities of giving the girls to her and then getting them back? She also has plans on moving to NC in the next few months, well as soon as she is able to sell the house. Would she have permission to take them with her. As much as its going to hurt me to have to do this I truly feel it's the right thing to do. But my whole fear is that I will lose them forever.

You cannot sidestep the rights of Dad here. He is dad and he has rights to the kids if the mother cannot take care of them. Also if your mom is going to move out of state she has no business taking the girls with her. The fact you were not married to him does not matter unless paternity was not established.

I recommend seeing if mom can help you with some daycare, or that you move in with friends or family that can help with childcare once you get a job.
Either you or Dad can file for official custody. Have you called legal aid to see if they can help? You should qualify. Also government assistance is avail to you in the meantime as well. The state will go after Dad to recoup those funds since there is no current child support order.
