I am a Texas attorney and my practice in strictly insurance defense (in house).
A friend called me just now with this problem:
Mom lives in a home that may or may not be her homestead, she's not sure, that was purchased 7 years ago with Son as the co-signer. Son does not live in the house and never has. Son recently filed bankruptcy, won't return her calls, and she doesn't know what effect his filing will have on the house. She's worried the house will be sold out from under her to pay his debts. She is more than current on her loan.
I know nothing about bankruptcy law. I am looking to refer Mom to an attorney in Katy, Texas that can help her but before I do that I want to get some advice on her problem to pass along to her.
