My tenant dumps grease from frying bacon and other meat products in the kitchen sink, which is hardened over time and clogs the pipe. In the past, I sent a plumber over to unclog it and he told me that it was grease that caused the problem. I paid for the service and told my tenant to put the left over grease in the garbage, not in the sink; and they would have to pay for the service if the same problem occurs in the future.

Now the pipe is clogged again. I will call a plumber but can I make the tenant pay if the reason for the clogging is grease? My rental agreement does not indicate clearly about this problem but there is a general provision requiring the tenants to care for the premises. Thank you.

If its not in the lease, I wouldn't try to collect it.
Your other option is to evict the tenants, or sue them in small claims.
