Alcohol & Drugs: MIP, MIC, Intoxication Class A Citation for providing alcohol to minor-Texas

Two day's ago a friend of mine was cited for providing alcohol to a minor (another friend of ours 19 yrs old). Today a detective from Dalworthington Gardens (they city of offense) called saying that it was a class A charge and she could spend up to a year in the county jail. This is the first time she has ever been in any trouble or done anything like this. Will she really have to spend time in jail, or is there a chance that she can receive a lesser sentence--like maybe a fine and probation?
