Ok here's the deal. My ex and I have a child together. When we split up, we agreed on how much child support he should pay me weekly and when he wanted visitation. We didn't want to go through the court system because we could agree upon it ourselves. It would save us both time and money. Now he's being unrealistic. He hardly ever gets our son and it's a pain to get him to give the child support each week. Now I want to go through the court system to set up child support payments through them. We were never married. So what is my first step I need to take to go through the system? I don't have a job right now because I'm a full time student. I have a wonderful husband that takes care of us all until I can finish school to get a job and help out. So therefore, I can't afford a lawyer. Can someone please help me and tell me how to get this case going? Thank you very much.

You can go to the child support enforcement agency (or office of child support enforcement, or dept of human services; OCSE, CSEA, DHS, etc) in your state/area. Google it. If your ex didn't sign the affidavit of paternity, they will help with paternity establishment, although there may be some cost involved.
i was in the same boat as you, only my ex used to hold up my child support checks until i was nice to him, in other words i did exactly as he said. it was a verbal agreement so i decided to take him to court. not only did i get my child support i rec'vd an extra $228.00 a month. make sure you ask them to sumitt direct payment through your local child support collection unit.
