We are filing a chapter 7 BK on several debts including taxes - income taxes, business taxes, IRS, State, and EDD (California). I know generally you cannot get tax debts discharged. But will filing the Chapter 7 stop the wage garnishment the State has on my paycheck at least temporarily?

Thank you.

Taxes, Child Support and Students loans are not Dischargeable in Bankruptcy-- Meaning you will owe them for ever-- Bankruptcy will not elevate your tax liability-- they will more then likely keep garnishing you until they are paid

It may -- But I doubt it--- When you owe the gonvernment $$ they will get it. Call the US bankruptcy court cleark in your state and see what they say-- If it does stop it might be for a week or two,
