My step-son bought a car from a local car lot last year. He wrecked the car in april of this year 2014. the car was totaled and the dealership told him he owed so much to get the title. he tried to pay that amount but the car lot told him that they couldn't accept that, that it was going to be more. his contract does not show his down payment but he has a receipt for it. the car lot was supposed to pay for the wrecker service and storage also and has not. what do we need to do to get the title and the money we are out?

First of all, decide how much this will be worth.
Then discuss your options with a local attorney.

That won't cost you anything but 15 minutes of your time.

Bottom line, if the car lot won't agree or compromise, off to JP or Muni Court you must go.

The small claims limit in Texas is $10,000.

Google "small claims YOUR COUNTY TX" and you'll see something like this for Bell County:

Along the right hand side of the page you'll see many other TX counties, too.
