Can a 17 year old legally leave their home without parental consent? If they do I know they can not be charged as a runaway because they are no longer subject to juvenile law; however is there anyway the law enforcement could force the child back to their parents? And if so would the person housing them (an adult, not related to them) be charged with anything such as contributing to the delinquency of a minor? What are some other options for a 17 year old to leave an abusive household?

Until you are 18 you cannot leave the house. You will be declared as a runaway. The only way to avoid this is you get yourself legally emanicpated which is not easy and is a long process. Google the laws of your state for emancipation guidelines.

If you are running away to be with a boyfriend/girlfriend then that person faces alot of trouble as well.

I live in Texas. At 17 you can no longer be declared as a runaway because you are no longer subject to juvenile law. I need some advise from someone who knows what they are talking about.

The people here gve the best advice they can give based on the information you give them. You owe them some civility for taking the time to help you.

You need to talk to someone who is familiar with Texas Family Code. Most of the codes are online at: http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/statutes/fatoc.html You can search through them if you like. However, the online versionmay not be up to date. You could also try the Texas Attorney General's office. http://www.oag.state.tx.us/index.shtml.
