I own a screen printing company, and want to make niche products...

Some of these will be clothing with a modified logo of a popular brand (for example, the Macintosh Apple will be a logo we use, but modified... ie. with cracks, different colors, etc...)

Basically, we are looking to graphically modify popular brand name logo's and sell them as a novelty item.

Are there any legal infringements associated with this?

Using the logo / trademark of another company creates an obvious problem so long as there remains a likelihood of confusion with the original logo. I'd need to know more about what you're doing but I'm guessing from the way you describe it that the likelihood of recognizing the actual company logo you've used is high.
