Can I apply for a federal or state grant to pay a private investigator?

I know about a drug dealer in northern New Jersey, and when I said this in front of the wrong person, the friend who tipped me off nearly lost their job because of it. They told me that the dealer's parents are lawyers, and on my own time I found a county legislator who probably shares the dealer's last name.

I think I watch too many Charlie Chan movies lol, but if we want a conviction, we must have proof. I have reached out to the local police and even the county sheriff and have not heard back.

Q: Can I apply for a federal or state grant to pay a private investigator?

A: Sure, if you can find a grant for such a purpose, I am sure you are capable of applying.'

Side note: there is no "we" in obtaining a conviction, unless, of course, you are a local prosecutor. I think it's a pretty safe bet that you're not.

The federal Drug Enforcement Agency invites any concerned citizen to drop a dime, eat cheese, snitch on a rat, or otherwise reveal to them ANONYMOUSLY tips relative to drug dealers.

If your tip is accurate and actionable, you might receive a big, fat, juicy REWARD from a grateful Uncle Sammy.
