I currently have a Lemon Law lawsuit that is set to go to court on Feb. 17th. I requested recently for that day off so I may attend. I do have PTO/Vacation available. I received an email stating that my day off request is denied and that the only way I can take off of work is if I can find someone from our other locations to come in a cover my shift. I have a letter from my attorney stating that it is required that I be in court that day. I do not currenly have a subponea. Can my employer stop me from going to this court date and would I need a subponea to stop my employer from denying my day off?

Unless your lawsuit is work related or you yourself are under subpoena to attend, your employer has no legal obligation to approve time off.
