During the holiday seasons we are forced to call an 800 number to listen to a recorded message to get our start time for that day. We are told to call at 6:30am and could start in as little as forty minutes or as long as two hours. Is this legal? Aren't we due some sort of compensation for our time? This is extremely inconvenient, especially for those families with children involved. My company has suspended company policy as it relates to on call or call in status and it is very frustrating. I'm not sure either of these even cover my situation. Please help?

Yes, it is legal.

No, the time spent making a phone call is "de minimus" and does not require compensation.

I'm sure it's very inconvenient and I don't blame you for being irritated, but there is nothing illegal here.
