California late respondent - request for default?

I filed for dissolution (using an attorney) April 2006. Spouse did not respond within 30 days, but my attorney didn't want to request a default judgment. Spouse finally mailed in response to the court in late June 2006, but without financial declarations as required. "Response" contested the terms (irreconcilable differences) in my petition and attorney asked court clerk to accept the incomplete response.

Absolutely nothing else occurred. No court dates or show cause/temporary orders. Spouse quit making house payments, so the bank foreclosed. No more property remains to split. My attorney was unresponsive, so I relieved her.

Would it be possible for me to file a request for default judgment? Even though spouse "responded", the original "response" was late and incomplete. If I cannot file for a defaut judgment, what is my next step? I want to end this sooner, rather than later.
