I am from New Jersey. I am looking to buy a car and register it and drive in New York City. I live in both places, although it is my parents home in New Jersey. I will be spending more time in NYC. I was wondering if there is anything I should consider when putting down my address and where to register my car, things to consider. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

No, you don't "live" in both places. You "live" in NYC. You "visit" your parents in NJ.

Do you have an apartment in NYC?
Do you have a job in NYC?
Is the car kept in NYC all week when not in use?
Do you get your mail in NYC?
Do you pay your taxes in NYC?

If yes to all those, you title and register the car in NYC.

And you buy insurance in NYC, even if the rates are higher.

Otherwise, if you fudge when you buy insurance you risk getting your claims denied and your policy rescinded.

If the answers to any of the questions are different, explain further.

NYC might seem a higher risk, but NJ has a corrupt insurance system because the legislature is primarily composed of personal injury lawyers. He's better off registering in the city.
