Business Owner Dies and Fails to Provide Services Paid For

Just over 6 months ago, I gave a small business a significant deposit for services which were to be performed. However, a couple of days ago I received a phone call stating that the owner had died and that I need to come retrieve my items (on which no work was completed). This is a sole proprietor business and when I went in to get my items, the family seemed to be in a hurry to shut down the shop. Being that it has been more than 6 months, my bank can take no action so I need some advice on how to retrieve my deposit. Thanks in advance.

Your legal option is to determine if you can sue the estate. Don't get your hopes up, unless he was WEALTHY, there's usually nothing to legally pilfer.

Most people simply let it go. Once they cross over to the other side, even the IRS can't harass them any longer!!!!
