i sold a mountain bike to a customer who then had an accident on a tricky biking course. He claims the handle bars snapped and is sueing for £100,000. The handlebars were fitted in Taiwan but made by an american company! where do i stand legally, am i liable?

Possibly. Only a court can say for sure. He'll have to show you breached your duty of care, possibly by selling a defective bicycle. The handlebar supplier and bicycle manufacturer might bear more liablity than you. Conceivably the customer and course are partly at fault as well.

Contact your insurer, and get a lawyer.
