Being asked to quit so son can move up

After being with the same restaurant for 7 years I am being asked to quit so my son can move up into management. They say I am a liability because of our relationship. But yet the owners have two family members working there. I haven't done anything to jeopardize my job. Is this legal? And they want to offer severance. How much am I entitled to?

Yes, it is legal. It is legal because there is no law that makes it illegal. It may or may not be fair, but it is still legal.

You are entitled to exactly as much severance as the employer wants to provide. No law requires that they provide you with any. There are only three states in which severance is ever required by law; Florida is none of those states; even in the three states where severance is sometimes required by law, it is not required by law in this situation.
