I owe a creditor some money and am behind several payments. I just received a message on my voicemail stating that an audit was going to be conducted on me by the creditor. I have not returned the call; before I return the call, I would like to be better prepared. Is this legal? Can a creditor conduct an audit on me?

An old business trick that disgusts me but may not be unlawful... or sometimes it might. Use words that accurately describe one action but imply something different. An "audit" can mean an internal audit of your file. I'm not aware of any manner in which a creditor can conduct or cause the IRS to conduct an "audit" on you as understood in the colloquial sense.
