My employer hired an attorney to bring a claim against an unfair import charge on material shipped to the US. They lost the case, paid $55,000, and thought the case was closed. That was in 2002 - 2003. Now here it is almost 2007 and the insurance company for the goods says they didn't get paid and are charging a $20,000 late fee.

The attorney wants us to sign a contract making them completely released of their liability, and to pay the late fee. If not paid in 30 days the insurance co. wants $9,000 more. This is insanely rediculous to me. My employer doesn't speak or read english and almost signed it and paid the $.

I'm going to see the lawyer next week. I'm not well versed in the law. Does anyone have some advise for us?

Explain why you think the lawyer should be liable for the late fees.
