A friend of mine recently moved to Florida with us but the landlord is threatening to evict him from the apts due to Attempted burglary convictions that happened 17 and 27 years ago. He has served his time. Are there any statute of limitations on how long these can be held against him?

just to clarify this, a landlord is not subject to a statute of limitations. A statute of limitations bars prosecution after a certain time limit, so in this case only the district attorney is subject to the statute of limitations.

Depending on the law and the contract, a landlord can or cannot terminate a lease, but it has nothing to do with the statute.

Advice for your friend.

He/She should hire an atty and attempt to get their record cleard (expunged). Has your friend had a clean record ever since? Done good for the community?

All these mitigating factors will decide.

Please advise.

Have your friend call the court where he was charged with the crime and they will give him instruction on how to proceed to get his records sealed or expunged. The costis minimal ifhe does it himself and expensive if he uses an attorney.
