My daughter's friend recently married a man from Antigua. He told her he was an American citizen, but she just found out that he is in fact a permanent resident who now wants to use the fact of their marriage to gain citizenship. She wants to dissolve the marriage (not solely due to this). Can she get an annulment since she was unaware of his citizenship status?

There's something not right here.

A permanent resident does not need to marry in order to obtain citizenship...they're already here legally. Marrying a US citizen would not make the process any faster or make it any easier.

Regardless, divorce is much simpler, cheaper and easier to obtain than annulment. That should be her recourse.
