Am I Married, if so Can I get a divorce?

My husband was married prior to us getting married in August 1985. I recently found out that he or his wife filed for divorce in July 1985, but it was not finalized until 1987. We have been separated for more than 5 years. Am I married? If so, do I have grounds for a divorce?

We were married in Maryland and I still live in Maryland.

No you are not married. However you do need to sit down with an attorney since you may have some equitable rights.

I am in the process of trying to find a good laywer. I purchased a house, but his name is not on the deed. Does that matter?
