Advice for unmarried father whose sig other just left

My grandson came home Tues to find his girlfriend and daughter gone and moved in with someone else a couple of hours away. They have been living together since before the baby was born, she is now 2, and he is listed as the father on the birth certificate. Does he still need to prove paternity with a blood test? Does anyone know of agencies that provide either free or very low cost legal help for him to get at least shared custody in the Chicago area? Thanks.

It appears he is already the Legal Father. Therefore its best he got to court to seek custody, support and visitation orders. Its also important he do this first so jurisdiction is there where he lives

I agree Dad needs to file for custody or ask that the child be returned. He really should contact an attorney and see maybe about emergency custody.
