Adopting your grandchild

we have had permanent custody of our grandchild for a year and would like to know if it is possible to adopt the child. Mom doesn;t seem to want to be a parent and Dad is in another state in prison

Is it possible? Sure. Guardianship is only intended to be temporary, so you should see an attorney and see if you can proceed with adoption. You might want to secure actual custody first perhaps? See what your attorney says.

My bad I thought you said guardianship. Then yes you probably have a good chance at adopting, but both mom and dad's rights would need to be terminated. Seek council.
