An employee is placed on paid administrative leave while his employer is conducting an investigation. Can the employer force the employee to remain at home during a typical 8-hr workday/40-hr workweek during the time it takes to conduct the investigation? Additionally can the employer force the employee to "check in" twice a day to confirm they are at home and available?

If you mean, is there any law preventing an employer from putting that restriction on the employee and firing them if the employee does not comply, no, there is no such law.

Yep, the employer can - no law against it.
