abandoned property on my property

someone I know left the cap from their truck this is the cover that covers the truck bed for a pickup truck, in my yard since last fall of 2011. what are my rights as the property owner? Can I have it removed since he is not picking it up?

You should first make a legitimate attempt to contact this person you know and give them a reasonable deadline to recover the item as well as explain your intent to dispose of it.
Before you do anything with the property you should check your state laws regarding abandoned property to ensure you follow proper procedure and do not incur any civil liability.

Well, first contact the person. If he does not respond, or you are unable to do that, I guess it's yours.
