a little legal advice

I was informed that someone i know had given my name up to police to get himself out of trouble and i was wanting to find out if there was any truth in this rumor, and if so what could i do to clear my name from such slander and can i do anything to the person who said it. I don't appreciate my good name sullied by those who are trying to escape responsibility for their actions. However i would appreciate any and all advice on this matter.

Unless you have concrete proof that he was the one who gave your name to the police it is all hearsay; however, if you have a criminal record, then it is a completely different story... In order to make this person stop, send a cease and desist letter to him/her and if the slander continues after that, you can file a slander suit to protect your good name and reputation. Good Luck!
