is a un-wed father still required to pay CS if he gives up rights?

My friend recently had a child with his girlfriend, and the relationship went sour. the mother is OK with the father giving up all rights as they are not married, but would it be legal/possible for the mother to make it legal that the father is not required to pay child support? is there anyway for the father to avoid paying support, with or without the mothers OK??
If the father is required to pay support, how do the courts determine how much he can afford? will they consider his income and living expenses so as to not evict him from his apartment?
thankyou for any and all advise/web links/resources :angel

Bad news for your friend. e just cannot give up his parental rights, especially if it is to just get out of paying child support. If he did not want the child he should not have gotten her pregant. Just because they broke up does not mean he has to walk away.

If she files for gov't assistane, or files for Cs, he must pay it.

Depending on what state he is in, CS is generally based off of both parents incomes and parenting time. He is entitled to see the child but first, paternity is probably going to have to be established.

He can try googling (his state) child support guidelines and see what comes up.
