Hi, I have been charged with cable theft! I moved into my new apartment about 5 years ago when I just turned 18. The cable was already connected. i never received any notices or calls from the local cable company. Therefore, I automatically assumed that cable ready meant that the cable was equipped with the apartment just like the water was. Three years later I received a summons for cable theft. The cable company stated that they would drop the charges if I paid a 500.00 fee. My concern is the state will pick the charges up and I am a criminal justice student so i am trying to avoid this from going on my record. I have no prior offenses. Please Help! What can I do?
