After 11 years I settled my work related injury claim. For the past five years I was receiving permanent disablity payments of 170.00 a week from the insurance company. At settlement my lawyer said that permanent disability and the settlement amount would not be counted as income by the SSA.
They say (SSA) that it is and want me to pay $53,000.00 dollars back to the govt.
At settlement I paid over $40,000.00 back to the insurance company for the permanent disability payents and a couple of advances.
If this holds as law I will have about $25,000. for be permanently disabled and 11 of living below poverty levels. i will have nothing if I live another ten years.
