I have a question regarding a lease w/ option to buy. The lease is for 24 months with the renter being responsible for obtaining a mortgage by the 22nd month. The renter has decided that they do not want to purchase the home at the end of the 24 month period, but are willing to stay in the home until the lease expires. However, the landlord has stated their contract requires that they purchase the home. Is it legal for someone to be required to buy something if they have not actually gotten a loan to purchase the home?
